Trump’s Response
Since July 2025, Trump has characterized the Epstein files as fabricated documents created by political opponents including the Biden administration, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton, calling it the “Epstein Hoax.” He maintained this position through September 2025, referring to the story as a “Democrat hoax.” On July 18, following a Wall Street Journal report about a letter Trump wrote to Epstein for his 50th birthday book, Trump filed a defamation lawsuit against the newspaper, its reporters, owner Rupert Murdoch, and parent companies Dow Jones and News Corp. Days later, the White House removed the WSJ reporter from the press pool for Trump’s Scotland trip.1
